COURSE NR. CB100
You don't have to know everything to be comfortable with computers. But there is a lot of information that will help you understand why things are the way they are... and how disaster can strike!
Knowledge is power!; So it's to your advantage to gather all the knowledge that you can. Besides which, computers are lots of fun - when they aren't driving you insane!!!
We will start in Computer Basics with going shortly through a timeline and explores the history of computing from 1945 to 1992. Each year features illustrated descriptions of significant innovations in hardware and software technology, as well as milestones in areas such as commercial applications and artificial intelligence. We will discover the influence and the impact of women in computer science history. To use your computer most effectively, you need to have some idea of what it is and how it works, much as you need to know about your car. We won't become technicians by any means, but in this course we have a brief description of an electronic computer. We explain also a lot of the techno-babble that you hear about computers. The goal is to learn enough that you can follow along as computer technology becomes more and more important in our world. We will identify some common parts of a computer. We will learn important computer terms, learn about computer types, types of input, applications, processing, output, storage, computer to computer, system software, programming and all those necessary knowledge which will guide you in actually using a computer and starting with Working with Windows.
We will match the course individually to your needs.
Inside PC
Inside the PC
COURSE NR. IP100
This course is an introduction to the technical and system components of current machines. That is a journey to the inside of a computer. What is inside your PC? Have you ever taken your cover off? Do you know what all those electronic components are? What do they do? Have you upgraded your computer's memory? CPU?…
A technician could spend hours (at outrageous prices) to search for a specific chip or failed solder connection that's causing a particular problem. Repairs aren't done at the chip level anymore. Everything is very modular. It's quicker, easier, and much more economical to have the technician pop in a whole new video card or motherboard.
But it's still important to know some of the different components and what they do. It may only take 5 minutes to upgrade the memories but it might require a lot more time to troubleshoot the problem and discover which module needs replacement. This is a great opportunity to learn about what's inside that case one by one and step by step. We start with precautions and work together the way through and open a computer's case. You learn how you can find the different components, connectors, and devices discussed. When you do, try and discover everything you can about it. What kind of chip is it? What does it do? What kind of socket does it fit into? How much data can it move at once? How fast is it? Write down more questions to ask yourself. Ask questions, or have someone ask you questions. Here in our training room on the desk, you can run a computer with the cover off so you can look inside as you read. You can learn an awful lot by taking a computer apart and putting it back together. Please Remember: Do Not take apart a monitor or power supply, there is enough stored electricity inside to cause you serious injury.
